A HISTORY OF
THE OYSTER HARBORS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
In 1987 a
group of members got together and
formed the Oyster Harbors Caddie Scholarship Fund. The Fund’s objective was to
contribute financial assistance for deserving club caddies to pursue a college
education. The Fund was
endowed for $100,000 generated by donations from various Club Members.
In December
2001 the Club’s Board of Directors approved expansion of the fund to include
all Oyster Harbors Club employees. The Fund is now referred to as the Oyster
Harbors Club Employee Scholarship Fund. The Fund’s principle has grown each
year. Yearly membership contributions are still the main source of revenue.
The Oyster
Harbors Club Employee Scholarship Fund enables young men and women from every department to spend their Summers
working at Oyster Harbors while meeting their financial demands of paying for a
college education. All applicants go through a screening process that includes
annual interviews before the Club’s Officers. Awards are approved at the
Board’s August meeting.
